I love doing leading these food tours as much as the participants seem to love them. Buford Highway “international corridor” is now an international foodie destination especially after celebrity Anthony Bourdain dropped in. Tony, glad you caught up! It’s been a local gem for YEARS and we’ve been leading tours and cooking classes there since 2009 🙂
The area hasn’t always been popular and thriving and has endured much economic hardship and to some extent, political neglect, especially during the 1990’s and 2008 economic recession when the focus (and funding) was on re-vamping Atlanta’s Downtown, Underground and Midtown areas. Several businesses re-located to the suburbs, like Duluth and Alpharetta.
Today, Buford Highway is unmatched in the region, and one of the few places in the world where you can find diverse, authentic (and affordable) cuisine and people, thriving, side by side–all in one area. Learning about the community’s history and hearing the personal stories from local business owners, many of them immigrants, enriches the experience and understanding of the “American Dream.”
It’s a wonderful place to explore with friends, take a date or the family. Eat the World, around the corner! A great way to support local businesses and communities.
Enjoy the video and look forward to seeing y’all over on the one-and-only Buford Highway!
