Eat the Season: Black Radishes a.k.a. Nero Tondo

October 22, 2012 by csbadminLeave a Comment

We were introduced to Grandma Brock’s Country Farm and owner, Debbie Brock, at our “Wok the Garden – Fall Harvest” Chef Demo last Saturday at Piedmont Park Green Market. No pre-printed recipes since we cooked up fresh seasonal vegetables picked that morning, in the spirit of a “Chopped” mystery ingredient basket! Thanks to all the farmers who contributed.

Fall vegetable highlight (photo): Black radishes? a.k.a. Nero Tondo. We discovered they have a distinctive taste similar to Daikon radishes. My family likes them raw and spicy or in a stir fry. I will also try Grandma Brock’s recommendation: roasted beets drizzled with olive oil, a little black pepper and feta cheese, yum!
